Both volumes are complete with a photogravure frontispiece portrait and 4 maps and plans (3 of which are folding color maps). The large maps are backed with linen. Includes 36 full-page illustrations mounted on India paper and six etchings printed in Sepia by M.G. Montbard, all signed in pencil by the artist, which is unique to this edition. This deluxe signed edition, known as Demy Quarto Edition de Luxe, was limited to 250 copies, this being number 248. All are signed by Henry M. Stanley. Sir Henry Stanley was famous for his explorations of central Africa. This book recounts his journey to relieve Emin Pasha, the besieged Governor of Equatoria. This book was an international bestseller, selling 150,000 copies shortly after publication in 1890.
