Description

First edition. Original black cloth with lettering in green. A near fine copy, exceptionally clean and crisp with some translucent splash marks to the rear cover. The author's scarce first book, one of only 1500 copies. Eric Arthur Blair asked his agent to ".please see that it is published pseudonymously, as I am not proud of it." When asked for suggestions for the pseudonym he wrote, "I rather favour George Orwell". Despite the author's lack of confidence in the book it was well received, with a recommendation from the Book Society and two reprints within the first month. Fenwick A.1.

About Down and Out in Paris and London

George Orwell’s 'Down and Out in Paris and London' is a gritty memoir splitting its narrative between the two cities named, exploring the underbelly of society and the life of the author's own experiences living in poverty. The book dives into themes of class, society, and the struggle for survival in an indifferent world.
