London: Printed and Published by W. Clark, 1821. leather_bound. 182 pp. - Watermark: countermark "A". Privater, signierter Ganzleder Handeinband. Octavo. 210 x 130 mm. (Binding slightly rubbed, corners bumped, lower cover slightly warped. Occasional light spotting, some light dampstaining to a handful of leaves. Else good.). Dark-green morocco, five raised bands, spine and covers gilt, upper edge gilt, marbled endpapers. Bound by Thomas Fazakerley of Liverpool, cf. Ramsden: UK, p. 71: "... he began to study bookbinding in 1813 and retired in 1877". Signed at the foot of the front turn-in. The first trade edition of Shelley's epic, printed without the author's permission by Clark with the assistance of Thomas Moses, renowned book pirate (whose monogram features below the imprint on the final leaf of text).
