First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author on the dedication page, "to Laura (and thanks Mum!), J K Rowling".
Just over a year after the first book in the Harry Potter series was published, Bloomsbury released Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on 2 July 1998. The print-run as confirmed by the publisher, after consultation with the printer, was only 706 copies. However, other sources suggest that 10,150 copies were released to an expectant public in the UK. Harry Potter was, as yet, unavailable in the US.
Octavo. Original matt laminated printed boards, spine and front cover lettered in white, green, blue, black, and red. With pictorial dust jacket. Housed in a bright blue quarter morocco solander box by the Chelsea Bindery.
Extremities a little bumped and rubbed, some minor marks to edges; minor creases to extremities of dust jacket, minor light scratch to front panel, unclipped: a near-fine copy in a near-fine jacket.
