First Railton edition, one of the most attractive illustrated editions of Boswell's great book; this set extra-illustrated and handsomely bound by Riviere and Son, with the additional volume of Johnsoniana, or Supplement to Boswell (1836). Seven vols, octavo. Finely bound by Riviere and Son in full blue morocco, spines lettered and decorated in gilt, twin gilt rule to boards, decorative inner gilt dentelles, top edge gilt, endpapers illustrated as map of London (Fleet Street area). Illustrated throughout with about 100 illustrations and portraits, by Herbert Railton. Very slight wear to boards, otherwise beautifully bound in very good condition. .
