Bound c.1990 by Bayntun-Riviere in half brown polished calf, brown cloth sides, the spines divided into six panels with gilt compartments, lettered in the second on a red goatskin label and in the third on a green goatskin label, the others with gilt corners and centres, marbled endleaves, top edges gilt.

Scenes of Clerical Life is the title under which George Eliot's first published works of fiction appeared in 1858, consisting of three novellas based on the lives of different clergymen. Originally published anonymously, these stories mark Eliot's debut into the world of literature.
