Description

First US and signed limited edition, large paper issue, number 191 of 250 copies signed by both the author and illustrator. A small paper issue was released simultaneously in a run of 250 copies. Both used the same limitation page, with "Large paper edition" blacked out in the small paper issue. "The House at Pooh Corner is probably now the most loved and popular of all. It introduces Tigger and the game of Poohsticks..." (Thwaite, Brilliant Career, p. 109). The final Pooh book was received by critics with a delight tinged by sadness. "The Times Literary Supplement congratulated Milne on avoiding 'the temptation to repeat his successful formula mechanically', though it was 'sad to see the stories end'" (Thwaite, Milne, p. 336). The popularity of this title in the US was newsworthy. The Minneapolis Morning Tribute stated that "For the last month" the publishers had "been trying to meet the nation-wide demand for The House at Pooh Corner... the first printing occured in September, 1928, so did the tenth printing, and so did the thirty-fourth printing". Octavo. Original quarter green cloth with yellow boards, spine with paper label lettered in green, front cover with lettering in green, covers with vignettes in green, green endpapers. Illustrated throughout by E. H. Shepard. Extremities a little worn in places, gatherings largely unopened; a near-fine copy. Ann Thwaite, A. A. Milne. His Life, 1990; Ann Thwaite, The Brilliant Career of Winnie-the-Pooh, 1992; Minneapolis Morning Tribute, 24 October 1928, p. 10.
