The book is in great condition with beautiful blue cloth boards and stunning gilt designs to the front with gilt titles to the spine. The book has sharp corners and no edgewear. 12 inserted plates with illustrations by Claude Shepperson. Final leaf is blank. The book has the original black coated end papers with no prior owner names and no inscriptions. The book has no edgewear but a few tiny spots of rubbing; and the binding is tight and square making the book quite readable and not fragile as is otherwise typical of this title. The internal pages are very clean and bright with no foxing, no stains, no writing, no handling marks and no bent pages. Please see the many detailed images. The First Men in the Moon tells the story of a journey to the Moon undertaken by the two protagonists: a businessman narrator, Mr. Bedford; and an eccentric scientist, Mr. Cavor. Bedford and Cavor discover that the Moon is inhabited by a sophisticated extraterrestrial civilization of insect-like creatures they call ?Selenites?.
