Box with light fraying and wear to corners with split to cloth at front hinge. Bound in full brown calf, rebacked, with red leather label bearing gilt titling to spine. Corners of boards lightly bumped; spine shows light plus sunning and some spotting. Text block lightly age toned with scattered foxing, particularly to first and last signatures. With the ink ownership inscription (dated 1792) and armorial bookplate of William F. Maior to front paste down, along with the ink ownership inscription of Ann Major, dated July 1, 1802. An earlier bookseller's description of this volume, with price excised, has been tipped to the front free endpaper, and the point identifying this as the first London edition (the substitution of "stinking" for "skinking" identified in the description) has been lightly marked with pencil on the relevant page.
