First edition, first printing. The novel was first published within the December 1933 issue of Redbook. It was filmed in 1934, directed by W. S. Van Dyke. The dust jacket is in the version with green highlights; with the "Book-of-the-Month" sticker on the front panel. The bibliography gives no priority to the green or red versions. Octavo. Original light green cloth, lettering and decoration to spine in red and blue, front cover with red outer frame enclosing mask design in blue, top edge dark red. With dust jacket. Housed in a custom green morocco-backed folding box. Mottled fading to cloth, browning to endpapers, foxing to edges; a near-fine and attractive copy. Extremities and some joints of dust jacket worn with minor loss to spine tips, spine slightly faded; a very good and unclipped example. Layman A6.1.a.
