New York: The Viking Press, 1958. First edition and first printing. Hardcover. 244 pages. Another classic beat novel from the author of the seminal "On The Road." A tight near fine copy in black cloth boards with a former owner signature and bookplate to the front pastedown and a small vintage bookstore sticker to the rear pastedown and in a close to near fine dust jacket that has the usual rubbing and some other minor wear. Still, a nicer than usual copy of a book that is very prone to wear.

The Dharma Bums is a 1958 novel by Beat Generation author Jack Kerouac. The semi-autobiographical story is based on the author's experiences during the mid-1950s while living in California, after he'd become interested in Buddhism's spiritual mode of understanding. One of the main characters, Japhy Ryder, is based on the real poet Gary Snyder, who was a close friend and whose interest in Buddhism influenced Kerouac.
