Description

First edition, first printing of Wallace's debut novel, originally submitted as one of two undergraduate honors theses at Amherst College and eventually published when he was just 25 years old. One of just 1,300 hardbound copies, many of which went to libraries and received the typical library marking treatment. This copy was spared the libraries and remains exceptionally bright with a few remainder marks to the bottom edge of the text block which, in this humble bookseller's opinion, lends it a certain charm. New York: Viking Penguin, 1987. Publisher's original half cloth over blue paper boards, spine stamped in metallic turquoise; pp. (viii), 467. An about near fine copy in a near fine, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square, minimal wear to boards, light crease to spine with a bit of rubbing to metallic stamping, remainder stamps to bottom edge of text block. Internally clean but for the typically toned pages. Jacket shows just a touch of shelfwear with none of the usual fading to the spine. A very presentable copy, protected in archival mylar.
