The bookplate has two boys' names written in, which are repeated in a gift inscription at the top of the free front endpaper, dated 1952. The Trumpet of The Swan was White's third juvenile title following Stuart Little [1945] and Charlotte's Web [1952]--and all have proven to be both popular and admired, each being adapted for cinema.
