London: Jonathan Cape, 1966. [Short stories] FIRST EDITION, BINDING B. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.95. Publisher's BLACK cloth-effect paper over boards, blocked in silver, patterned grey endpapers, pictorial dust-jacket illustrated by Richard Chopping. Publisher's price label to flap showing 16s/80p. Textblock gently tone, jacket crisp and fresh. A fine copy. A most unusual variant binding, tooled exactly to pattern but using a black cloth. Most copies were bound in a brown or grey-brown cloth; unfortunately, some booksellers have mistakenly or inadequately described their copies as black when in fact they are dark brown. The previous James Bond titles Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me and On Her Majesty's Secret Service were also originally issued in a dark brown cloth. Genuinely scarce, and one for the Fleming completist! Gilbert, Jon: Ian Fleming The Bibliography, A14a (1.2).
