Description

Type: Z A lovely complete set of the Waverley novels. Consists of Waverley, Guy Mannering, Antiquary, Rob Roy, Old Mortality, Black Dwarf and a Legend of Montrose, the Heart of Midlothian, Ivanhoe, Bride of Lammermoor, Monastery, Abbot, Kenilworth, Pirate, The Fortunes of Nigel, Peverill, Quentin Durward, St. Ronan's Well, Red Gauntlet, Betrothed and the Highland Widow, Talisman, Woodstock, Maid of Perth, Anne of Geirestein, Count Robert of Paris and The Surgeon;s Daughter and Castle Dangerous. The volumes are bound decoratively in red half leather and with gilt embossed tooling to the spines. Gilt embossed lettering and number of volume also to the spines between the raised bands. The gilt is bright and makes this an attractive set. Marbled paper covered boards and end papers. All volumes have frontispiece plates and there is a fold out illustration of Sir Walter Scott's handwriting in volume I. There is a little rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and more marked rubbing to the leather corners with some loss of the superficial leather covering and some rounding of the board corners. There is some foxing to the reverse of the end papers and to the blank end papers. The textblocks are surprisingly clean and tight. A very good charming set.
