The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is a science fiction novel by American writer Robert A. Heinlein, published in 1966. The story is set in a futuristic penal colony on the Moon where the inhabitants, led by a sentient computer named Mike, revolt against the government on Earth to establish their own independent lunar society.

Identifying a first edition of 'The Moon is a Harsh Mistress' can be done by checking for the publisher's name 'G.P. Putnam's Sons' on the title page, the absence of later printing mentions, and that it states 'First Edition' along with the date '1966'.
