Publisher's red cloth, gilt lettered to the spines, top edges red, dust jackets, that of volume I stated sixth impression and price clipped, the other two unclipped, discreet contemporary ownership inscriptions to the front pastedowns of the last two volumes. Folding red and black maps at the end of each volume. Spines of volumes II and III slightly slanted, jackets with some fading and wear, that of volume III with a split along the upper joint repaired with tissue on the verso.

The Fellowship of the Ring is the first of three volumes of the epic novel The Lord of the Rings by the English author J.R.R. Tolkien. It is followed by The Two Towers and The Return of the King. The story begins with the discovery of the One Ring, which had been lost for centuries, and follows a group of heroes who set out on a quest to destroy it and prevent the dark lord Sauron from fulfilling his malevolent designs.
