First UK edition, first printing of McCarthy's first book, winner of the 1966 William Faulkner Foundation Award for notable first novel. London: Andre Deutsch, 1966. Publisher's original red paper-covered boards, spine lettered in gilt; pp. (i-iv), (1-7), 8-246. An about near fine copy in a near fine, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight and sturdy, minimal wear to boards, very faint and nearly negligible soil to bottom edge of boards, foxing to edges of text block. Internally clean and fine. Jacket shows just the slightest traces of shelfwear and rubbing. A very nice copy, protected in archival mylar.

The Orchard Keeper was Cormac McCarthy's first novel, a work of rich, poetic prose, telling the intertwining tales of a rural trio trapped by acts of violence and a mysteriously connected orchard.
