Mission San Juan Capistrano

W. A. Haines
USD$229

Description

One of a series of photos taken by William Amos Haines (1877-1953), who travelled through the United States in the first decades of the 20th century making early panoramas with a rotating Kodak Cirkut camera. He was particularly interested in California's Spanish missions, and took photographs of a number of these sites around 1910. Mission San Juan Capistrano was founded in 1776 and is home to the oldest building in California still in use, a chapel built in 1782. It is well known for its beautiful architecture, picturesque ruins, and the swallows that nest there in spring. Photograph. Sheet size: 20.2 × 50 cm. Ink stamp of the Santa Barbara Free Public Library, red pen mark, and Haines blind stamp to verso. A few small marks, crease to lower left corner. Very good condition. Presented in hand finished stained oak frame with UV glass.
