Handsome map of the Mediterranean, with seven inset maps of some important harbours - Marseilles, Genoa, Gibraltar, Leghorn (Italy) Algiers and Smyrna (Turkey). The insets have soundings, and two - Gibraltar and Algiers - have plans of naval battles. The New General Atlas was one of the most accurate and best produced atlases of the day. John Thomson's 'County Atlas of Scotland' is generally considered the finest of its kind.
