George Stubbs
USD$1,396

Description

Gorgeous engraving of two playful leopards (Stubbs, as was the custom of the time, calls all big cats 'tygers') on the banks of a stream, emerging from a dark, brooding grotto. From the original of 1780. Although George Stubbs is best known as an animal painter, particularly of horses, this bold work shows off his considerable talent as an engraver. The edition was published by Ian Bain at the John Boydell Press for Observer Art Ltd. Engraved by STUBBS, George. Size: 47.5 x 38 cm. (18 x 15 inches) Framed size: 69 x 60cm Copper engraving. Uncoloured. Fine condition, good margins. Presented in quality museum mount and hand made silver frame.
