An early map of New Zealand showing the coast in some detail with numerous depth soundings to North Island and the route taken by Captain Cook. The charting of the coast is complete apart from a small sections, mainly in South Island. Four inset maps of Riviere de la Tamise, Baye de Tolaga, Baye des Isles and Detroit de Cook; compass rose. Published in Bonne & Desmarest, Atlas Encyclopaedique. Size: 235 x 340 mm. Copper engraving. Later colour. The map itself is in fine condition, but there are a couple of spots on the ample margins, not affecting the map. The edges are attractively uncut.
