An Improved Map of the County of Stafford, divided into its Hundreds

Emanuel Bowen
USD$275

Description

A wonderfully precise, detailed and informative large map of Staffordshire; from 'The Large English Atlas' ; arguably the finest English atlas produced in the eighteenth century. Emanuel Bowen and Thomas Kitchin were prolific and highly respected cartographers, however, this collaboration was not without its difficulties; ownership of the particular project changed many times, therefore the maps are found to have various imprints. This map carries the imprint of Robert Sayer, John Bowles and Carrington Bowles. In addition to being on a grand scale, the maps carry a wealth of valuable county information concerning the Seats of the Nobility, geographical and political information, and major market towns and cities. Copperplate engraving with original outline colour. Mounted size: 885 705 mm. Very good condition.
