Description

The original illustration, signed by the artist, for one of the scenes in Mary Russell Mitford's "Our Village", which comprised a series of sketches of country life. Brock's illustrations form part of the "Series of English Idylls" published by J. M. Dent & Co. The scene depicted shows "the good, the lowly, the pious child" Jane Mowbray reading to the "exceedingly venerable" Mrs Allen. Original pen-and-ink watercolour oval illustration (346 250 mm), Margins faintly marked. In excellent condition. Presented in a wash-line mount and gold leaf frame with conservation glass.
