Fabulous engraving of a female monkey from one of the finest examples of eighteenth century french natural history illustratrion.The prominent french naturalist Bernard-Germain-Étienne de La Ville-sur-Illon, comte de Lacépède 1756-1825 compiled 'La Menagerie du Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle', a catalogue of the various species of quadrupeds, reptiles and amphibians in the impressive collection of the zoo attached to the Museum of Natural History where he was professor of zoology.
