A beautiful view of the town of Altdorf, the capital of the canton of Uri. A coat of arms in the centre of the title shows the head of a fierce bull. In the lake to the left of the scene is a compass, and along the bottom of the map runs a key to the chief landmarks corresponding with numbers marked within the view. Last on this key is "Wilhelm Tellen platt und Cappellen" referring to the statue and square to William Tell at the heart of the town. This Swiss national hero is of special significance to the town since it is rumoured to be where the William Tell legend took place.
Copper engraving. Uncoloured.
In very good condition, despite a small rust mark in top centre.
