A beautiful and map showing southern Andalusia, Gibraltar and Cadiz. This rare map was produced by Joshua and Reiner Ottens in Amsterdam, shortly after Gibraltar was captured by Anglo-Dutch forces in 1704, during The War of Spanish Succession. This fact is mentioned in the boxed map title in the lower left corner. The map shows the region in extraordinary detail, as seen by wonderful renditions of coastal beacons, hills, rivers, castles, towns, roads, churches and the cultivation of local fields.
Size: 515 x 610 mm. Copperplate engraving with original hand colour.
Slight water staining, and a small repaired tear to upper central fold, otherwise in good condition.
