Pieter van der AA (1659-1733) was from a family of booksellers and publishers in Leiden, who flourished during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. His work was well executed and highly regarded by his contemporaries. The maps themselves are easily recognised and distinguished by their attractive title cartouches, and for the precise cartographic detail they contain. This map depicts the Rhone river, south of Lyons, and the regions to the east (mostly) and the west.
