Edition of 850, signed in pencil lower right by Lowry, numbered with publisher's blindstamp lower left. Reproduced from an original oil painting on canvas executed in 1943. St Luke's was built in 1733 in Old Street, London, the church was closed by the Church of England in 1964 after subsidence made it unsafe. The roof was removed two years later for safety reasons and the shell became a dramatic ruin for 40 years, overgrown with trees, despite being a Grade I listed building. Eventually it was restored for the London Symphony Orchestra as a concert hall, rehearsal, recording space and educational resource.
