This magnificent print is a superb example of early printed colour. It was published in Alexandre Laborde's 'Description d'un Pave en Mosaique'. This book documented the discovery of a mosaic floor of a Roman villa, found in the village of Santiponce near Seville. This print shows part of the centre section of the mosaic - two horsemen, one mounted and galloping, the other lies crushed beneath his horse.
