This a lovely, well engraved and delicate view of the French town of Nancy, showing the towns excellent fortifications, by the accomplished Swiss engraver and publisher, Matthaus Merian. He became extremely well known for his engravings of plans and of town views in the seventeenth century. This particular engraving comes from Gottfried's 'Neuwe Archontologia Cosmica'. (ref: Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers 'K-P' page 240).
