The original signed illustration for the 1908 edition of Sense and Sensibility published by J. M. Dent & Co. in their Series of English Idylls. Charles Brock and his brother Henry prided themselves on the historical accuracy of their illustrations; they collected antique furniture and clothing, and used friends and relations to model them in their Cambridge studio. Charles Brock was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in the same year as publication of these illustrations. The scene is Edward Ferrars joining Elinor and Marianne as they are out walking. Original pen-and-ink water colour illustration. Paper size: 38 x 26.5 cm. Image size: 30 x 19 cm In excellent condition. Pin holes top margin. Archivally re-backed. Presented in a hand-made white gold leaf frame with conservation acrylic glazing.
