Mission San Fernando Rey de España

W. A. Haines
USD$1,002

Description

One of a series of photos taken by William Amos Haines (1877-1953). Mission San Fernando Rey de España was founded in 1797 by Father Fermín Lasuén. The buildings were restored in the 1940s and the mission is now the final resting place of Bob Hope. Haines travelled through the United States in the first decades of the 20th century making early panoramas with a rotating Kodak Cirkut camera. He was particularly interested in California's Spanish missions, and took photographs of a number of these sites around 1910. Photograph (202 x 480 mm). 2 ink stamps of the Santa Barbara Free Public Library, red pen mark, and partial Haines blind stamp to verso. Minor creases from handling and a few faint spots, adhesive residue to verso. Excellent condition.
