Pieter van der AA (1659-1733) was from a family of booksellers and publishers in Leiden, who flourished during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. His work was well executed and highly regarded by his contemporaries. The maps themselves are easily recognised and distinguished by their attractive title cartouches, and for the precise cartographic detail they contain. This is the delightful map of the north western Dutch province of Friesland - famed for its windmills and the distictive black and white cattle that bear the regional name.
