The original signed illustration for the 1908 edition of Sense and Sensibility published by J. M. Dent & Co. in their Series of English Idylls. Charles Brock and his brother Henry prided themselves on the historical accuracy of their illustrations; they collected antique furniture and clothing, and used friends and relations to model them in their Cambridge studio. Charles Brock was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in the same year as publication of these illustrations. Original pen-and-ink. Paper size: 38 x 26.5 cm. Image size: 30 x 19 cm Very good condition. Marks to margin. Instructions to printers in pencil bottom margin. Presented in a hand-made white gold leaf frame with conservation acrylic glazing.
