A very beautiful and decorative panorama of the city of Edinburgh, from Carlton Hill.Published in Kip's 'Britannia Illustrata'. Because of its title, it is known widely as the 'Queen Anne View'. In the sky are a delightful pair of cherubs, either side of rococo style title. The panorama shows the city in one long line from (right to left) Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace. It was drawn by Leonard Knyff, a Dutch artist living in England, as was Johannes Kip, who was also a master engraver and a print dealer. Salisbury Crag and Arthur's Seat are viewed in the background. Interestingly, a number of buildings seen in this panorama still survive today; Canongate Church, St Giles Cathedral, Tron Church and Canongate Tolbooth. Framed size: 675 x 1305 mm.
