This magnificent print is a superb example of early printed colour. It was published in Alexandre Laborde's 'Description d'un Pave en Mosaique'. This book documented the discovery of a mosaic floor of a Roman villa, found in the village of Santiponce near Seville. This print shows the part of the floor in front of the entrance to the room with decorated border designs and three bare chested males amongst some vegetation.
Copper engraving. Early printed colour.
