A truly apocalyptic print depicting an earthquake and erupting volcano in Japan ("Jedo"). Panicking people in the foreground, a flood or mudslide to the right sweeping trees and buildings along with it, destroyed buildings and trees, dark brooding clouds and a fiery erupting volcano on the horizon, all these add up to make a truly terrifying scene. Most antique prints present an idealised vision of their subjects, but this view however, hides nothing in its portrayal of a natural disaster. Nieuhoff's L'Ambassade de la Compagnie Orientale.
