This magnificent print is a superb example of early printed colour. It was published in Alexandre Laborde's 'Description d'un Pave en Mosaique'. This book documented the discovery of a mosaic floor of a Roman villa, found in the village of Santiponce near Seville. This print shows two of the roundels that make up part of the floor in immaculate detail. The lower roundel contains an elegant crane, the upper, part of a mask on a plinth.
