Stunning view of the port of Ostia or 'Portus'. Showing the hexagonal port of Trajan surrounded by a huge complex of fortified warehouses,.opening out into the port of Claudius with his light house. A colossal statue guards the entrance to the port. Numerous sailing ships, triremes and cargo ships in the harbour. The River Tiber at rear, upper left. Dedicatory cartouche at lower left to 'Cornelio Witzen', key along lower edge lists the principal buildings and features on the map. Size: 555 x 340 mm. Copper engraving.. Uncoloured.
