These two prints, on one sheet, were produced for the artists catalogue of the Society of Artists exhibition in Spring Garden, Charing Cross, May 1761. On the lower image, produced as the tailpiece, the motif is intended as a satirical contrast to the frontispiece, which shows Britannia and George III watering the arts - here we see a monkey with a magnifying glass (the connoisseur) feeding dead sticks, only valued for their age. Copper engraving. Uncoloured. Size: 21.5 x 38 cm (8½ x 15 inches). Fine condition.
