Handsome map of North America, with a speculative, but fairly accurately depicted Arctic coast, (this map was drawn thirty years or so before the discovery of the North-West-Passage). Most of the west and north is left blank, except for the names of the Indian tribes and the courses of the main rivers, and notes such as 'This river according to the Indians joins the sea' in place of hard cartographical information. California is called 'New Albion', The New General Atlas was one of the best produced atlases of the day.
Copper engraving. Original outline colour.
Fine condition.
