An attractive mid eighteenth century map of Spain and Portugal, decorated with a figurative title cartouche in the top right corner. Two inset maps of the Minorcan harbour of port Mahon and the Straits of Gibraltar accompanied by some notes on the two as well as a fascinating annotation, which attributes the cartographic detail in the region to the draughts of Michelot and Bremond and English cartographers.
Emmanuel Bowen was one of the leading English mapmakers of the eighteenth-century, and was unusual in that he was cartographer to both the French and English Royal Courts.
