Description

An attractive engraving from an important and impressive eighteenth century French botanical work by the husband and wife team of Nicolas Francois and Genevieve Regnault. From their work entitled: 'La Botanique mise a la portee de tout le monde ou collection des plantes d'usage dans la medecine, dans les ailments et dans les arts'. Plants are named in Latin, Spanish, English, Italian and German. This work illustrates both helpful (medicinal) and decorative plants. Blunt says "The most impressive French botanical work of the period". Milkweed is a common folk remedy used for the clotting of small wounds and the removal of warts. Size: 455 x 335 mm. Copperplate engraving with original wash colour. Very good condition.
