Sir William Gerald Golding was an English novelist, playwright, and poet. Best known for his debut novel, 'Lord of the Flies', he was also an accomplished writer of other works exploring mankind's inherent evil and complex human nature. He served in the Royal Navy during World War II, which influenced many of his writings. In 1983, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature.
